Lafarge Prestia solves many technical problems,
such as...

  • surface scratches: plasters with impurities (iron oxides, hard particles) makesArt needs beautiful plaster! gritty materials and scratches.
  • lumps too fine: plasters will create lumps during paste preparation.
  • inconsistency: inconsistency of plaster setting time will disturb the organization of the applicators on sites and create problems.
  • difficult mixing: plaster badly protected from moisture will have set plasters lumps that will bring difficult mixing conditions.
  • too fast drying: plaster that dries too fast will affect the working conditions (finishing).
  • cracks: plaster that expands or shrinks too much will make cracks on surface, as well as a lack of strength.

Those problems put the professional finishing of the construction sites at risk and increase the building materials cost a lot (bigger products waste, bigger plaster consumption because of shorter setting time, etc…). That' s where Lafarge Prestia wants to help!

Benefits with Lafarge Prestia deco-plasters

  • Our plasters have no harmful impurities (iron, hard particles) because they are made with the purest gypsum, perfectly cleaned, and we have installed more than 60 magnetic separators on our production lines. We therefore believe that our plasters are the best gypsum board accessories.

  • Our plasters fineness is designed by our Research and Development team to minimize the efforts during the mixing and to avoid lumps formation.

  • Our formulation expertise and choice of chemical additives (resins, fillers, etc…) optimize the strength and the overall quality of our plasters.

  • Our plasters have a perfectly consistent trowelling time and setting time, thanks to our specific high tech process and on-line process parameters control, high frequency quality testing and ISO 9002 system.

  • Our packaging is specially designed to prevent water to get in contact with plaster powder and form hard lumps in bags.

Some technical tips

  • The most important and most simple : Use clean tools and apply on clean background!
  • Make sure that the application area is dry, clean and dust free prior to use Prestia plasters.
  • Use clean water, tools and bucket to avoid any dry residue in the paste.

StorageOur warehouse

  • Bags must be kept dry in a closed room and must be stored so as to avoid direct contact with the ground, protected from moisture and condensation.
  • It is recommended that product be used within 6 months of manufacturing date.
  • First In First Out (FIFO) stock management is highly advisable, of course.

Notes about decorative plasters

To obtain the best from Prestia plasters, rigorous and precise mixing conditions are essential. Any variation can modify plaster setting mechanism and affects the porosity and mechanical strength of the plasters.

For casting plasters: Prestia CEIL – Prestia GRG

Mixing ratio
The necessary quantities of plaster and water must be carefully weighed on a regularly calibrated scale.

Mixing ratio variations can definitely affect the performances of the boards and shapes, especially their bending strength and shock resistance.

Sprinkling and soaking
This step is important, as it allows the powder to wet slowly and releases entrapped air. This improves the final mixing.

Casting
To avoid any air entrapment, the mixed slurry should be cast slowly at constant speed. When the slurry has been cast, the fiberglass should be sprayed on the surface of the wet plaster to gain the required strength.

Drying
Drying is an important step in boards making. It allows the extraction of surplus water to achieve optimum mechanical strength.

Strength
The homogenous and compact structures of Prestia plasters allow a high mechanical strength development as compared to that of ordinary plasters. Moreover, the use of Alpha plaster, Prestia GRG, gives the possibility to increase the mixing ratio and to get very high strength.

Influence of the different parameters on the final performances
Due to their formulation, Prestia plasters are less sensitive to working conditions than ordinary plasters. However, it is recommended to follow rigorous working procedures in order to maintain a constant level of performance.

A customer's story… on how Lafarge Construction Plasters helped the applicator to optimize the organization of the job sites.

We recently asked Mr. P, professional plasterer for internal ceiling and partitioning in Australia why he won' t switch to anything else in the world than Lafarge Cornice Adhesive (except – to be honest - for a cold beer). Here is this story:

"(…) We have been using for some years the local competitor' s Adhesive, since no alternative product was available in the region at that time.

One day (two years ago) a salesman from Lafarge Prestia came to our job site to look at our problems and propose their solution: this was Lafarge Cornice Adhesive.

We carried out on the field tests with this product. I was immediately impressed by theManual mixing very white color, and then the other characteristics as well as easy mixing, creamy consistency, nice workability and convenient setting parameters.

I am still 100% satisfied with those performances, but the main reason to our loyalty now is the consistency of the material that helps us to improve the organization of our work, and brings time and cost- saving… The setting time is always the same, with great accuracy, from a bag to another: no more wasted material, no more loss of time waiting for the plaster to set, etc... So we are able to manage very well our planning: cut the cornices, clean backgrounds and tools… and be early at home, because we still have other things to care about…"
